Hello! I collect tons of inspiration and plug color palettes, ideas, and emotions from them into my work. You can get a feel for my comics work by following my favorite images from around the internet.

Wise and Traveling

image

Recently, I made a friend at a party in Bushwick and he commissioned me to do a heading for his blog, Wisdom Traveler. He is a meditation pupil and jet setter, looking for words of the wise on his travels. I’m actually inspired to travel now, too! In one more day I will be on my way to Angouleme, France. I’ll be illustrating my stay at a chateau and the city as it gears up for its annual comics festival.

Prelimary sketch idea, just doodlin’ and figuring out what kind of characters I might want.

I fleshed out some ‘types’ of people that should make up the crowd.

Screen Shot 2014-01-16 at 10.20.47 PM Sketch and color composition, more developed, to get an idea of the tone and better environmental placement. As you can see in the final image, I made even more changes, added characters, and moved some around. Most of Yuriys recent travels have been through Asia, so we brought in more people from those areas. So I’m headed to France, now. My next project will be debuting here on my site this Saturday! And will continue throughout February when I come back. Au Renoir!

Merry Christmas, happy holidays! I have some new illustrations since my last post on The Bygone Bureau, written by Bridey Lee, inspired by both Christmas and Travis Bickle from Taxi Driver.  And two posts on Bushwick Daily, written by Frances Gill and Dr. Lisa Levy respectfully. The two images became a series, and maybe I’ll get to complete it with a third. Enjoy your holidays and vacations!

I made an illustration of beautiful ballerina dancing. I wish I could make this a pattern for a shirt.

I love this so much.

One more quick SPX note before I drive to the airport — a while back I drew a short, fictional story for an end-of-the-world themed anthology called, “THE END, OH WELL.” It looks like the book is finally done and will be debuting at SPX! It was edited by the venerable Luis Echavarría Uribe. Check out that lineup - holy shit, it’s going to be great.

Whoa hey, that’s me! I didn’t even know this had come out! Surprise!

I’m in a book with my friends! Pick it up at SPX everyone!
